Chicken Malaikari (Chicken in thick coconut milk)

Today I will share a very tasty & one of our favorite chicken recipe. This one is actually a kind of inversion. I prepared this first time during pregnancy. We were bored of typical chicken recipes. We used to have prawn malaikari, a very popular fish recipe. So I thought why not try this with chicken. After the preparation, it came out really well.

500 gm chicken cut in medium pieces
5-6 medium sized onions finely chopped
1 big size potato cut in cubical pieces
1 medium size potato finely chopped
1 cup coconut milk
1 tsp mixture of raw garam masala (Cinnamon, cardamom, clove, black pepper)
3-4 green chilis slit
1/2 tsp red chilli powder
1 tsp Jeera powder
1 tsp Dhania powder
2 tsp ginger garlic paste
1/2 tsp chicken masala
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
2 tbsp mustard oil
1/2 tsp ghee
Salt to taste
Pinch of sugar

Preparation :
First of all wash the chicken pieces well & marinate them with all the spices for an hour.
Heat oil in a pan & add the raw garam masala. Let the aroma comes of the spices.
Now add the marinated chicken & stir well.
Also add the chopped tomatoes & cook covered in low flame.
Cook for 15-20 min & stir occasionally.

In the meantime heat refined oil in a deep bottom pan & deep fry the chopped onions with little salt.
Drain the fried onions & keep them aside.
Now check whether the chicken pieces have been softened or not.

Increase the flame & fry them well for few minutes.

For the coconut milk you can prepare that at home very easily.
Grate one coconut & grind it in a mixer.
Now add little hot water & drain it in a bowl. Your coconut milk is ready to use.
You can use frozen coconut milk as well.

Now add the coconut milk & fried onions.
Mix them well with the chicken pieces.
You can use little more water if required. This will be a thick gravy.

Now check for salt & if you want you can use a pinch of sugar as it will be a little sweet dish.
Sprinkle 1/2 tsp ghee over it & cook covered for 5 more minutes.
Your chicken malaikari is ready. Serve with hot rice or Chapati.
I have tried this recipe with Aloo Paratha. And it goes really awesome with this.
